What Happened When I Gave Up Bread

Hello best life seekers!

If you’re like me, you love pizza, pasta, bread, cookies, pies, chocolate croissants, and other delicious dishes like these.

Well, I gave up them and refined carbs. And the results were astonishing! Astonishing enough that I rarely eat them any more almost a year later.

Here are the big benefits:

  • No more acne
  • Improved digestion and gut health
  • More even moods and less anxiety
  • Clearer thinking
  • Better, more restful sleep
  • Weight loss
  • Disappearance of 3 years of chronic elbow and nerve pain
  • Return of full movement to an arm that had developed limited rotational ability and shoulder pain
  • Disappearance of chest tightness
  • Increased energy
  • Stable appetite

So that’s a lot of changes! And it happened pretty much over the span of a month to three months. Many of these benefits were completely unexpected. No way did I think my diet would cure my arm and joint pain and movement issues. That was a total shocker. Getting clean of refined carbs really revamped by body, mood and mind. Now, if I eat a full pizza, my skin breaks out and my joint and nerve pain flare up. My mood takes a hit too.

Full disclosure, I gave up sugar at the same time (sugar is a refined carb) so I can’t say for sure that it was just wheat or sugar or both that led to the changes. It’s actually really surprising how many of us have gluten sensitivities or allergies and don’t realize it. Between the possibility of gluten sensitivity and knowing how bad sugar is for us generally, I’m happy enough with my new health not to care which processed carb ultimately caused my problems!

By give up, I really mean it. My meals don’t contain wheat products like pasta dishes or bread. No more bagels or sandwiches. I totally skip those aisles at the grocery store along with the junk food sections. Maybe once a month I eat pizza but it’s considered a treat, not real food. Gone too are cookies and desserts served daily, though I will eat the occasional slice of cake or pie. They’re reserved for special occasions at work or for celebrations with friends and family rather than at home – the flare up of my joint pain alone keeps me honest.

I won’t kid you, the withdrawal period nearly killed me! Refined carbs, like most wheat-based products, break down like refined sugar in our bodies – and sugar is highly addictive. Cocaine-addicted rats when offered cocaine or sugar WENT FOR THE SUGAR in one famous study. Mostly I keep homemade dark chocolate on hand for severe moments of need.

Because of all the health benefits I received, I’m totally on the no-refined carb bandwagon now. If you’re wanting to improve your health and gain vitality, giving up or at least drastically reducing your refined flour and sugar consumption will change your life! Just beware of the withdrawal – it’s real and your body, emotions and mind will do everything to convince you to keep your habit.

Good luck and don’t give up. Your health is worth it.
